Review date: March 25, 2018 | Model: HP Envy 17-ae143ng
All in all the Envy 17 made a decent impression. The i5 CPU is powerful enough for most common usage scenarios, and combined with the GeForce MX150 GPU it even allows for smooth gaming. While doing so, the notebook stayed comparatively cool and quiet... There really isn’t much to criticize. Besides the glossy display the only other major fault was the thin and tinny speakers that are unworthy of a multimedia notebook. In addition, the notebook is only equipped with a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C and no Thunderbolt 3.0 port, which should have been a given at the Envy’s price point.

The Envy 17's zippy performance, metallic design, vibrant colors and rich audio make it a laptop that's worth considering. However, the low brightness, awkward grid pattern on the screen and weak keyboard really hold this machine back. If you're looking for a 17-inch touch-screen notebook, you'll probably prefer the Dell Inspiron 17 7000 2-in-1, which offers longer battery life and a bright, vibrant display. Just make sure you purchase that laptop with the latest, 7th Generation Intel processor on board. However, if you're willing to live with its compromises, the Envy 17 is worth considering.

The HP Envy 17-k203ng is a 17.3-inch all-rounder. The Core i7 of the laptop ensures good performance with everyday tasks and the GeForce GPU provides gaming prowess, which can accommodate the latest games, such as Battlefield: Hardline. A fast Solid State Drive ensures good system performance and the second HDD provides ample storage space. Furthermore, the laptop barely heats up and has low noise emissions. Unlike the 15.6-inch panel of its sibling, the HP Envy 15-k203ng, the panel of the Envy 17 is impressive.
