3.8 / 5 stars (70 reviews) - Beautiful laptop/notebookLatest review: May 29, 2017 | Model: HP ENVY 13-d010nr
For the money, it can't be beat with premium features like the newest 14nm Intel Skylake CPU, Samsung 128gb SSD and the latest 8gb RAM memory standard. Fired it up and went to work immediately; no bloat-ware to remove and not loaded up with promotional materials from the manufacturer(s). The screen is beautiful and the graphics (Intel 520) are fast. In fact, the machine itself is fast and responsive. It boots in less than 15 seconds and rips through everything I have thrown at it so far. Battery life is as advertised, about 6 or 7 hours plus, depending on how you are using it. The Bang Olufsen speakers are very good once you tweak them via the graphic equalizer, but they are still laptop speakers, so don't expect booming stereo sound. The machine is light weight, solidly constructed and has multiple ports, including an HDMI port and SD card reader which I find especially useful. At a price of under $700, the HP Envy is hundreds less than the Macbook Air and the Dell XPS 13. It is also more competitive than the Microsoft Surface. I considered all the above before purchasing the Envy and I am glad I did. The only possible negative I found was the fan noise, but it's barely noticeable and would annoy only the most persnickety of users. Five stars, highly recommend.

Overall, though, the HP Envy 13 is a bit of a mixed bag. Its design is great to look at, but it doesn’t necessarily hold up so well under closer scrutiny, especially when you put your hands on it. I found the keyboard, in particular, disappointing to use for prolonged periods, and its performance is also hindered by its chassis compared to similarly-specified laptops... The Envy 13-d008na has the same 1,920x1,080 screen I tested but an i5-6200U for around £649. The main difference is predominantly in base and Turbo clock speed on the i5-6200U, which is 2.4GHz and 3GHz respectively, so you can expect around 8% slower performance, but that's still pretty good value for its price. In the end, though, I would rather spend a little extra and get the Asus ZenBook UX303UA, as this has better build quality and performance along with a top-notch screen.
