Glad I caught that sale. Product is excellent overall. I miss the numbers keyboard being on the side. Camera is strange location. I like the keys - except the space bar requires an extra push and my thumb catches the mouse pad a lot. Light up keys are great.

More "Coffee Lake" 15.6-inch workstations are coming, and they're bound to be fierce competitors and Editors' Choice contenders, but few if any will be as sleek and light as the Precision 5530. The latter bridges the gap between full-size mobile workstations suited for crunching through datasets or creating renderings and lighter models intended mostly for just showing those completed renderings to clients or colleagues. Like its XPS 15 sibling, it's a standout in its field.

Finally, what are my conclusions about the Dell Precision 5510 laptop? My fingers quickly adapted to the keyboard and the 5510 proved to be a better traveling companion compared to the Latitude E5570 thanks to the smaller overall size and weight while not losing any display size. The travel functionality is further improved by the fact the high capacity battery provides at least 10 hours of light use. Heat and fan noise is not a problem under light to moderate use. Thunderbolt 3 + USB-C provides good future-proofing if Dell manages to fix the current glitches. I’ve paid for features which I don’t think I’ll use (mainly the dedicated graphics) but that’s the penalty of getting something which meets my other requirements. I have the comfort that, by shopping at Dell Outlet, I paid about half of what it would cost to order as a new notebook.

The Dell Precision 15 5000 Series (5510) is a well-constructed system, boasting a solid build with quality materials like aluminum and carbon fiber, and it features one of the best displays around. Our configuration is pricier than some of the competition, but the striking screen—which features a 4K resolution and touch technology, both absent from the previous Editors' Choice Lenovo ThinkPad W540—and fast performance warrant the extra cost. The Precision 15's solid-state drive is also bigger than the one on the Lenovo W540, it comes with double the memory (though the system can't be opened for upgrades, like you can with the Lenovo W540), and you get an HDMI port. With its excellent design, full feature set, and class-leading performance, the Dell Precision 15 5000 Series (5510) is our Editors' Choice for mobile workstations.

Both beauty and the beast, the Dell Precision 5510 combines high-end workstation performance with a gorgeous screen and a sexy chassis... Dell's Precision 5510 is a premium 15-inch workstation that offers powerful performance, an eye-popping ultra-HD screen and an attractive, lightweight body. If you don't need the power of a workstation but still want a 15-inch computer with the beauty of the Precision 5510, check out the Dell XPS 15, which is almost exactly the same on the outside but offers better battery life. However, if you want to do professional 3D work or high-end calculations on the go, the Precision 5510 is hard to beat.
