As I write this, the Acer Chromebook 14 is sitting with 13 reviews, all of which are 5 stars... and I do feel a little bit bad here breaking up the perfect game, but after using this Chromebook for a few days, I feel I have an obligation to point out both its strengths and its drawbacks. Even writing that, I can't say I'm completely surprised by all of the 5 star reviews, as there are a lot of things that this Chromebook gets right... And please, everyone, stop saying this is a $300 Chromebook that is nicer and faster than a $1000 MacBook or PC, because if you've really used those devices, you know it isn't true... even if it sounds great in a review.

My husband has an Android smartphone but the screen is too small for a lot of things. He also has my old laptop but it has just gotten to be too slow. All he wants is to quickly be able to check web based email, surf the net, read our local paper and manage his fantasy sports teams on a screen big enough to see. This Chrombook is the perfect solution for him. It was easy to set up. I just logged in with his existing Google account, connected to wi fi and most of his apps and bookmarks transferred over. He is really diggin' the touchscreen, since sometimes a track pad is just too hard for him to maneuver precisely... Battery life is really good. If he uses it for hours on end, he'll need to recharge daily but if he just checks mail once in a while, the charge will last for days. The build quality seems solid and the speeds are good- actually lightening fast compared to my 6 year old laptop! If you need to crunch numbers on a complex spreadsheet, edit photos or play multi-player online games this might not have enough oomhp for you. But for basic, simple tasks it is a winner!!!

I want to give a brief background of where I’m coming from and what I think about the new Acer Chromebook 11. In the past I have owned a Thinkpad laptop, a Dell notebook with a touchscreen and pen, and a couple of tower desktop computers. I have also owned two Android devices. These days I mostly use an Ipad for web browsing and apps, and a desktop for word processing, printing, Microsoft office needs, the occasional game, etc. I needed something at my work that was small and light and did not need a lot of computing power. I didn’t want to spend much money. After hearing about Chromebooks for a while, I did as much research as I could and decided a Chromebook fit the bill... Can’t believe it was only $179. Great job Acer, and great job Amazon for getting it to me in a day and a half with Prime. I will make sure to update as I use it more, and if my opinion changes.

Acer has been dominating the Chromebook market by releasing high-quality, affordable, and reliable Chromebooks that stifle the competition--but does the new Acer Chromebook 13 really offer improvements worth ditching you old Chromebook for this newer one? Let's look at what upgrades have been made and let you decide if it's worth taking the plunge into this new Chromebook... I really feel that the Acer Chromebook 13 is an amazing machine that has addressed upgrade requests from Acer users, specifically in regards to the display. Although I'm extremely impressed with the upgrades to the display and battery life, I'm still hesitant to jump on the bandwagon and make a drastic switch from x86 based Intel processors to Tegra based processors. No other Chromebook utilizes this processor and I feel there may be some hiccups with this processor until Google and its various app developers address them. I'd personally recommend waiting for the next model Acer Chromebook to hit the market and see what it offers before making the switch. As many people will tell you, you never want to be the guinnea pig for a brand new piece of technology... it's best to let the manufacturers and developers work out the bugs and buy a product with all of the issues resolved. However, if you feel the upgrades Acer is offering in this latest Chromebook lineup is worth it, go ahead and take the jump. Acer has consistently impressed me with every new Chromebook model they release and I have confidence the new Chromebook 13 won't let us down. I'll update my review as I continue to use the Chromebook 13 and post any mentionable issues I discover.

If you’re looking for a cheap laptop for school, and you don’t need frivolous features and a high resolution display, the Acer Chromebook Spin 11 is a great device. Just mind the lower than average battery life... If you’re not a student, and you’re looking for a device for multimedia consumption, we’d recommend going with the 2018 iPad or saving up for the Asus Chromebook Flip. However, at this price point, you’re not going to find a Chromebook that’s better than the Spin 11.

Performance is good, but the design is what sells it. And really, this Chromebook is perfect for all types of uses thanks to the larger-than-usual screen and its portability. The 14-inch size is enough to comfortably work with two windows side-by-side, but it's not so big that you can't use it on a plane or train. The matte finish helps with keep glare to a minimum and it's an IPS panel, too, giving you good off-angle views so gathering people around for a Google Hangout call or to watch a movie is very doable. Even its down-firing stereo speakers sound pretty decent for a budget laptop... Design matters to a lot people when they go to buy a laptop including myself, even for an inexpensive Chromebook. The Acer Chromebook 14 certainly is a standout in the category. I really liked having the extra screen real estate, too. If you can live with not having the best performance for its less than $300 price, put it on your short list.
