3.4 / 5 stars (12 reviews) - It's a great upgrade for my old laptop (A6-6310)
Latest review: February 23, 2019 | Model: Acer Aspire 3 A315-41-R3RF
I ordered the laptop as I wanted a laptop in the $400 range, max willing to pay is $400 after taxes, shipping, etc. It completely blew away my previous laptop with 4 cores. Finally can play Skyrim at 1600X900 with my custom settings and texture mods, plus a few other games. The processor is very speedy for my requirements, so it was an amazing upgrade, despite being 2 cores/4 threads. The laptop is sturdy to carry around, no problems whatsoever, but the adapter feels a bit odd when inserting, I feel like I can break it at any moment, but the feeling won't knock down a star. Battery life is awful, so if battery life is your concern you can get an Intel based laptop. 3 and a half hours while watching a live stream with the desktop's Twitch app and some websites open on the browser. If I try to leave it at static sites, it says 5 hours but that's hard to determine. Sadly, it's not as light weight as I expected, as times fly, the laptops have gotten lighter. Not that I wanted it paper light, but I didn't expect standard laptops to still be this heavy, my older 2008 Toshiba was pretty heavy for example, and my 2012 ASUS laptop was lighter and this one is slightly lighter. The only negative I can give is how the battery drops to 95% as soon as I disconnect the laptop, it's badly calibrated or faulty in general, during gaming it can drop to 95% as well but I don't game while on battery solely.

We can conclude that Acer Aspire 3 (A315-21) is a budget mid-range laptop that is just ordinary. Despite this, the model has many merits which would attract one’s attention. Firstly, there is its low price. Also, the display does not use PWM which allows for continuous reading or working without eye strain. If you make use of our Display Profiles, the display significantly improves its qualities. The matte finish is also a big plus. Another selling point is the peculiar lid surface and lack of fingerprints on it. Additionally, despite this being a low to mid-range laptop, its build quality is really intact. Like we said, there are no gaps or weak spots. This together with the easy upgrade process (RAM or HDD) is a strong plus for the model. The battery runtimes are not the best by any means but you could purchase a bigger battery.

The biggest issue with the Aspire A315-51 is that 15.6-inch display, which suffers from poor visibility and a serious lack of colour accuracy. However, look past these flaws and you’ll find a perfectly decent budget laptop. Acer’s solid design work, coupled with a satisfying keyboard, respectable connectivity and decent battery life make this Aspire well worth considering as a family or student machine. Overlook the basic display and the Aspire A315-51 is a decent everyday laptop, available for a low asking price.
